Too 'old' and grown too slowly (more water required) with too much sunshine. A common problem. The bitterness is apparently from sunshine photosynthesising on the skin, with some types more susceptible than others; they need a bit more shade and more water so a frame for growing is good. if youve done all this then ...who knows!!!
Thanks, Kel! I shall build a frame to give them some shade and they might even be inclined to climb up. More water, too. Will do so before the stinker of a week begins. Seen the forecast?!
