...is great fun, when you are prepared.
Let them climb up a structure that can also support a ladder. What is the point in having them climb up 2 - 3 metres and then you can't reach them?
This was the first year we actually harvested a few handful of beans. And the most delicious beans they were!
Unfortunately, the bean harvesting time was too short, and we are beanless again. But I'm happy we actually got to harvest a few.
Spring is always a crazy time. The chooks dig up half the beans, the snails have a go at the tiny seedlings, etc.... So every bean is a bonus, really. I'll try again next year. :)

I am balancing on an up-turned plastic container at the present to reach the beans. I didn't even think of a ladder... I'm a bit dim!
*LOL*, Hazel! That's why we all read each others' blogs, so that we learn from each other. :)
gosh that is like the beans from the jack in the beanstalk story... they go up and up..:)
I'm wondering if growing beans straight up the ladder would work, I might give it a try. :p
Confess that I grow the dwarf types so I have to bend over rather than reach up for harvesting the yummy crop.
That a nice harvest of beans. We only harvest 2 or 3 beans at a time so I just freeze them. I feel like autumn now instead of summer. Our climbing snake bean has just started to produce.
