Today's harvest

Tomatoes galore! A bowl of crab apples - the kind you can actually eat as they are! Chillies, a zucchini and cucumber.Approx. 10kg of apples (Abbas).A whole basket of basil (Sweet & Lettuce Leaf).I love this time of the year, when there is so much to harvest. And the decisions, how best to preserve the bounty for leaner times. :)

  1. Crab apples that you can eat raw - what sort are they?

  2. John Downie. Very heavy-bearing tree. Hardy. From the UK, as far as I know. Really pretty with all the small fruit on it. :)

  3. That's the variety we have in our garden but I've never tried eating them raw - maybe I should!

  4. I only tried it as it was sold to me as a crabapple that you can eat. What do you do with your crabapples? Jelly, paste?

  5. WE have made jelly with them but to be honest we haven't used any for a few years as we don't make jams and jellies any more so really the blackbirds have them
