Strawberry bed
The strawberries are looking really good. However, they are still very small and green. The structures are in place - so that we can put netting over the bed when they ripen up. So, grow, strawberries, grow! :) We are ready!

I picked our first strawberries yesterday. I think they need a little more sunshine to sweeten them though. The birds are not my problem but the millipedes and the odd slug are the ones to watch out for.
ReplyDeleteMillipedes! I was watching my first, big, fat, strawberry for he season ripen. I resisted the temptation to pick it too early and when I judged it was just right...oooooo, the anticipation. The back of it was gone and it was totally hollow...with a fat millipede inside...I swear I heard it burp!
ReplyDeleteOlive, well done! You are ahead of us. No birds? Lucky you. :)
ReplyDeleteHazel, yuk! Yes, we have those buggers, too. Nothing worse than salivating over a big, plump, juicy, ripe strawberry, then turning it over - and be confronted with a millipede! :)
