Asparagus

We are still harvesting the occasional handful of asparagus. What a treat this is!

Our first year of harvesting our purple asparagus. Isn't it just stunning?!
The spears have also become bigger over the years.
Just enough for an asparagus omelette. Life is good! :)

  1. My asparagus is still small and so I am harvesting slowly, it is so delicious though. I cant wait until mine are as fat as yours. How old are yours? Mine are three years old now

  2. Africanaussie - the thick spears are already about 8 years old. The purple asparagus is about 3 years old - I grew it from seeds. So, with lots of feeding/mulching, your spears should soon thicken up, too.

  4. JFH - they taste about the same as the green ones. Maybe a bit sweeter? But that may be my imagination. They do stay slightly purple, when cooked. :)
