Sorry I am a non chicken owner (would like to be one) and I don't understand this. Why do chickens loose feathers when it gets colder? I am sure this is obvious to all chicken owners but I just don't understand would it not be better to get more feathers at this time of year?

ElsieMay, our autumn is not normally that cold.
ReplyDeleteIn autumn the chooks lose their old feathers to acquire new feathers for winter to protect them from the cold.
I hope you have a chance to get chooks, too. They are very entertaining creatures. :)
I am also just get to be familiar with the word "moulting" after reading blogger that have chook.
